Editorial Review:
Album Description: UnSun is a Polish Melodic Metal band formed by the guitarist Maurycy "Mauser" Stefanowicz member of the Death Metal band Vader. The 2008 debut album of UnSun, is The End of Life on Century Media. Originally formed under the moniker Unseen, the dynamic four piece around Polish guitar maestro Mauser (who is also playing in Vader, one of Poland's renowned metal bands) finally decided that something incorporating day and night, light and darkness would suit them best. A label for their music which is melancholic and a little dark at times, yet catchy at the same time. Something that would put a name to the bitter-sweet twist of Aya's highly melodic vocals topping the driving force of the underlying guitar riffs.

In the diverse metal soundscape, UnSun's music might be categorized as "gothic metal". However it may be classified, what is significant, is that this band from Poland, is responsible for producing solid, rather catchy, and very listenable metal, on their debut album, The End Of Life (2008).
Singer Annelyse "Aya" Stefanowicz's voice, is what you almost immediately notice, and focus on. She may not have the greatest range, but Aya can sing through a wall of heavily distorted guitars, and not be irritating, or come off as overtly pretentious. That English is not Aya's native language, only adds to the charm of her performance.
The rest of UnSun consists of Aya's husband Maurycy `Mauser' Stefanowicz on guitar, Filip 'Heinrich' Halucha on bass, and Wawrzyniec `Vaaver' Dramowicz on drums. The songs are mostly mid-tempo to slow, usually with a thick heavy background sound of indistinct guitars, with some keyboard sprinkled in. Occasionally the guitars get ... Read More

UnSun is a new band from Poland who deliver a unique blend of melodic metal fused together with angelic vocals. This is a decent album as it demonstrates the powerful musical abilities of this band full force.
Maurycy "Mauser" Stefanowicz (formerly of the death metal band Vader) is the lead guitarist and his talent really shows here as he delivers some very powerful riffs accompanied by beautiful, and at times, emotional guitar solos. Anna "Aya" Stefanowicz has an incredible voice. I find her vocals to be very unique compared to other female fronted metal bands. Some say that her range isn't quite as broad as Cristina Scabbia or Sharon Den Adel, but I tend to disagree. Her vocals soar and are very soothing while treading on sometimes dark subject matter. The bassist and drummer are also very skilled, and do a great job at tying the music together.
I really look forward to hearing more from this band in the years to come, and hope to see them come to the States ... Read More

I like this CD a lot. Good eruopean metal sound. I like the vocals due to her distinct, heavy accent - and her voice is outstanding. I'd say this is more metal than goth. It's high energy with excellent guitar. Impressive musically yet catchy songs. "Whispers" and "Destiny" really standout. "Blinded by Hatred" "Face the Truth" and "other Side" are also great songs. There's really not a bad track.

I picked this one up some months ago while browsing Amazon's recommended albums (...of recommended albums ...of recommended albums). It looked intriguing, so I gave the sample playlist a run.
Initially the sound seemed "off" compared to the Within Temptation, Nightwish, Lunatica, and Autumn that I'm used to. I thought, "Wow. I don't think I like this... but I'll listen a little longer." Inexplicably hooked, I bought the album and gave it a full listening. And you know what?
It's excellent.
The songs are generally very upbeat and intense; the album kicks off to a strong start with Whispers and takes few breaths (Face the Truth, Memories) as it pounds through over fourty minutes of awesome before closing with a bang on Indifference. Unsun's enthusiasm really shines through the composition and the performance - they love what they do, and they let you know it. They also tap into something that the genre and modern music in general is by and large ... Read More
