Editorial Review:
Product Description: One of the most influential bands in music, ranked eighth on the list of the biggest-selling groups in history, Metallica unveils its ninth studio album, Death Magnetic. The band's first album in five years, Death Magnetic is also its first with renowned producer Rick Rubin (Danzig, Slayer, System Of A Down, Slipknot), first with bassist Robert Trujillo, and first on Warner Bros. Heavy and thrashy, unafraid to embrace the band's past yet move into the future.

They really took it back to what I was use to with "Master of Puppets" and "And Justice for all". Rocking out with tempo changes and great lyrics and guitars. I held off buying this cd but glad I did after I saw it at a used music store. Wish I would have 2 years ago. Great musicians. Peace.

You can read my review of St. Anger on the product page if you like, to know how I felt about that album. With that said, I listened to this album with one eye closed, hoping it wouldn't suck. Well, it doesn't suck, it blows...everything the hell out of the water. This is the album that should have been released instead of St. Anger. With Trujillo firmly in place as the "new" bass player, it goes for the throat and doesn't let off. The only bad thing I can say about this album is, that it looks ridiculous to see a grown man head-banging in traffic, and you will be...you will be. I'm out!

Finally a return to form. Great songs. However, a couple aren't as good as they could be. Also, the sound levels were mastered much higher than they should have been leading to clipping and that makes the audio sound a little overdriven. Overlooking that, its awesome.

Metallica makes another failed attempt to reclaim their long lost place in metal history as the world's top metal band, and in the process, sells out for a second time in their careers... this time,to themselves.I get the feeling that for this album they were doing metal just because it was trendy again, not because it's what they wanted to do.I Really did like this album a lot when it was first released, but it has turned out to be a reverse-grower for me,and i realized that the only reason i cared for it at all was nostalgia..the lyrics are juvenile, insipid and weak, james hetfield's voice is long shot,lars..well it's lars- basic novice drumming at best.Generic metal songs that are way too long, poorly pasted together with pro-tools..in this regard death magnetic is closer to st.anger take-two than many metallica fans would care to admit.I guess i was just expecting more being an original old-school metallica fan(since the 'puppets days)..three stars for "all nightmare long" though..great ...
