Diminished Fifth Records was created in July 2006 by musician and music lover, Josh Hogan. 

The label’s 3 current releases have generated press and praise from various continents around the globe including, Alternative-Zine (Israel), Blabbermouth.net (USA), BW & BK Online (USA), Chronicles of Chaos (South Africa), Earshot Online (Canada), The Gauntlet (USA), Halifax Daily News (Canada), Harm Webzine (USA), Metal Storm (Estonia), The Metal Forge (Australia), Metal-Rules (Canada), The Moncton Times & Transcripts (Canada), Music Extreme (Argentina), and Unrestrained Magazine (Canada).

The first brick in the label’s foundation was releasing Josh’s own bands CD, The Orchid’s Curse debut, ‘Goodbye is when the Casket Closes…’ (September 2006) which is an aggressive blend of Thrashy Melodic and progressive metal. This release was followed by the highly praised ‘The Music of Artisanship & War: Volume I’ (March 2007) which features 17 bands from across the east coast. This CD has appeared on University LOUD Charts nationwide (www.earshot-online.com) and further helped expose the scene. The third release was the devastating ‘Siege of Darkness’ (June 2007) by Moncton New Brunswick’s Dischord who have unleashed a relentless assault of socio-thrash over their 7-song, forty minute marathon.

Coming in early 2008 Diminished Fifth Records will release their most anticipated release thus far, ‘Nine Mile Woods’ by Gallactus which is their follow-up to 2004’s critically acclaimed ‘Empire of the Eye’ (Independent) which was praised by sites StonerRock.com for their unique blend of Cosmic Bong Rock.

While working with the specific releases the Label has been busy promoting the East Coast scene as a whole. In addition to launching the 17-song compilation CD the label was also a sponsor of the 1St Maritime Tattoo Festival which was held in May 2007 in Halifax N.S. and has also recently been lobbying the East Coast Music Association to recognize ‘Heavy Metal’ as a category in the yearly awards and has been moving along quite successfully in that battle. The label has most recently launched a new monthly online newsletter called ‘Horns High’ (http://diminishedfifthrecords.com/ezine) that looks in depth at the East Coast Metal Scene.
